Cestrians are streets ahead of their hosts

CHESTER-LE-STREET Town went three points clear at the top of the table thanks to a 2-0 win at West Allotment Celtic, Josh King’s brace enough to make it seven wins out of seven for the Cestrians in the league this season.

Thornaby are second after goals by Kurtis Howes, Lewis Murphy and Matthew Osmond eased them to a 3-0 home win against Bedlington Terriers.

Easington Colliery slipped to fourth after they were beaten at home by Washington. Things were going to plan for the Colliers after Kyle Middleton fired them in front on seven minutes.

But on 65 minutes Kris Goss got the Mechanics on level terms and the ex-Jarrow FC striker sealed a surprise win for his side three minutes into injury-time.

Joe Barwick scored a goal in each half to help Birtley Town move into the top five with a 2-1 home win against Durham City, an own goal City’s only reply.

Jarrow are into fifth place despite a home draw with Redcar Athletic. Jonathan Higham put Jarrow ahead on 12 minutes and Luke Lloyd grabbed a debut goal to extend their lead.

But late goals from Sam Webster and Gary Wood ensured that Redcar secured a point.

Liam Jarvie and Nathan Stephenson looked to have put Crook Town on their way to all three points in their home game against Brandon United.

That was until two goals in the space of five second-half minutes from Lee Blades and Sam Joyce got the visitors back on levelterms.

But Crook still secured the points as Chris Dunwell fired a winner for Crook with ten minutes left on the clock.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion continued exceed pre-season expectatio­ns as they fought their way to a 3-1 win at Heaton Stanningto­n.

A Dan Sayer own goal put Albion ahead on the hour-mark at Grounsell Park and Lewis Shorrock doubled the lead on 73 minutes.

Richard Hoggins made amends for an earlier penalty miss when he offered the Stan some brief hope with a goal on 78 minutes but Tyler Davis secured the points for the visitors with a late goal.

All four goals came in the last 20 minutes as Willington and Billingham Synthonia shared the points at Hall Lane.

Dean Thexton put the hosts ahead on 70 minutes but Synners striker Kallum Hannah got his side back level ten minutes later.

Conor Winter looked to have secured the points for the hosts but Hannah got his second of the day three minutes into injurytime to help his side take a point.
