Ap­peal af­ter man at­tacked in park

■ Po­lice at the scene A MANHUNT is on af­ter an Asian man was at­tacked, thrown to the ground and robbed by a gang of four in a New­cas­tle park.

The 33-year-old was walk­ing in Nuns Moor Park at a 9pm on Tues­day when he was am­bushed.

The cul­prits dragged him into the park, threat­ened him and de­manded he hand over his be­long- ings, although de­tec­tives say they only made off with a phone cover.

Po­lice have is­sued an ur­gent ap­peal for wit­nesses.

A spokesper­son re­vealed the vic­tim was taken to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment to mi­nor in­juries.

They said: “An in­ves­ti­ga­tion to iden­tify the men is on­go­ing and po­lice are now ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to get in touch.

“De­tec­tives want to speak to any­one who may have seen the attack or seen any­one act­ing sus­pi­ciously in the park around the time of the attack.”
