Boris Johnson saying HS2 is too expensive:
“Boris is not a member of the Government. The government is absolutely behind HS2.
“A huge amount of effort and investment has already gone into that.”
Did anyone get his phone number from the conference app?
“I don’t think so. So far, no phone calls I would describe as odd or any unusual messages.
“I hope it stays that way. But from what I can gather, it looks like a bit of breach and it’s not very nice to see.
“So I hope that if people do come across the information, they just act responsibly.”
Is the Prime Minister’s proposed “Chequers” Brexit deal still viable?
“Yes it’s absolutely on the table. The Prime Minister’s put it on the table.
“The EU’s still evaluating the proposal, they haven’t yet come back with their formal response to it.
“I suspect that’s not going to happen until the October council meeting in a couple of weeks.
“If the EU has some areas where they want to come up with some better proposals, if they don’t like things, then they need to come back formally and tell us what that is.”
Should Theresa May stand aside after Brexit?
“I think she should be leading this party for as long as she wants to.
“She is doing an excellent job in very difficult circumstances.”
Will he stand for the leadership?
“I’m not thinking about that at all, I have a big task on my hands as Home Secretary.
“And there’s no vacancy, so anyone who is thinking about that is wasting their time.”
Is it true he told the Cabinet he wanted to axe workers’ rights and environmental protection?
Mr Javid says he shouldn’t reveal Cabinet discussions, but adds: “Given that it’s not true, and I did not say it, I’m not revealing anything that was said in Cabinet.
“Because I absolutely did not say that.
“I said neither of those things.”
