Rouse calls off race after hand injuries take toll

Sunday Sun - - Basketball -

SUPERBIKE race ace Chrissy Rouse has been forced to withdraw from this weekend’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship action at Assen.

The Burnopfield rider attempted to return to action at the Dutch track on Friday after missing the last two rounds with a broken left wrist and right hand after a crash at Cadwell Park back in August.

But despite spending the last few weeks trying to build up strength in both hands, the 22-year-old struggled on Friday as he tried to get to grips with the Movuno.com Halsall Racing Suzuki superbike.

Yesterday morning, team manager Colin Wright revealed he felt there was no option but to withdraw Rouse from the race as he was still not fit enough.

“I appreciate this will come as a big blow to our fans, but our priority will always be the health and welfare of Chrissy and all of the other riders on track,” he said.

“It’s a disappointing situation for everyone, but we believe that Chrissy needs time to heal fully, and that it is not worth risking further injury just for one weekend.”
