EPPLETON’S CUP JOY

Eppleton Un­der-13s landed the David Stephin­son Tro­phy by the nar­row­est pos­si­ble mar­gin, pip­ping neigh­bours Het­ton Lyons in the fi­nal at Sacriston.

Both teams scored 93-9 from their 20 overs, but the Church Road side won by one run on count­back - Eppleton scor­ing 92 from 19 overs com­pared to Lyons’ 91.

Eppleton won the toss and in­serted Lyons, and got straight on the score­board as Tay­lor Vout was dis­missed early by Josh Hutchin­son.

Tight bowl­ing re­duced Lyons to 50-5, but James Hutchin­son got his side back in the game with an un­beaten 21 from 36 balls, backed by Ella Tomys (12). Ed­ward Brown (24) and Jye Richard­son (2-11) struck for Eppleton.

Eppleton’s reply started brightly, with Jake Pratt mak­ing 10, backed by 19 from Brown. Josh Hutchin­son then led the way with 32, in­clud­ing four fours and two sixes.

Once man of the match Hutchin­son re­tired, Lyons were back in the game, tak­ing five wick­ets for five runs, leav­ing Eppleton 92-8.

Luke John­son was the saviour at the end with seven not out from 18 balls as Eppleton closed on 93-9.

Jack Hed­ley took 3-2, Jack Scott 3-16 and Luke Hus­band 2-17.
