Jail warn­ing after man ad­mits ar­son at­tack

A Wear­side man faces jail after ad­mit­ting caus­ing an ar­son at­tack which left a man with se­ri­ous in­juries.

Daniel McCar­dle, 27, was ini­tially charged with at­tempted mur­der fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent in Fer­ry­hill, County Durham, in July.

When he ap­peared at New­cas­tle Crown Court how­ever he pleaded guilty to charges of ar­son with in­tent to en­dan­ger life and wound­ing with in­tent.

In the in­ci­dent, a house was bro­ken into in Fer­ry­hill be­fore McCar­dle is al­leged to have poured a liq­uid through a win­dow. A man came out of the prop­erty and was then set alight.

The vic­tim suf­fered sub­stan­tial burns in the at­tack.

Fol­low­ing his guilty pleas McCar­dle, of Coxon Street, in Hen­don, was re­manded in cus­tody.

He will be sen­tenced at a later date.
