Dragons’ cup final triumph

-

Durham Dragons won the annual Dave Webster Memorial Tournament in Dumfries, beating Paisley Blackhawks in the final.

Dragons, a recreational side playing out of Whitley Bay since the demise of the city’s ice rink, beat Paisley 3-1 thanks to a memorable hat-trick from James Udell and a fine display by netminder Sam Elsom.

Captain Chris Hall said: “These lads have given up a lot of their spare time and hard earned cash in order to keep the flag flying for Durham hockey.

“We’re training at crazy o’clock at night and travelling all over to keep the club going and this is why we do it, for moments like this.”

The club are hoping for sponsorship to help their future plans, with anyone interested asked to visit durham-dragons.com
