Boys making medals fit for Wearside star

-

Two Sunderland boys have made medals in honour of their hero, England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, after his World Cup exploits.

When asked who their hero was, Kalen Lay and Mitchell Peggie, had no hesitation in naming the Wearsideborn footballer.

The boys, who are students at Broadway Junior School, were at the Tall Ships event in Sunderland earlier this week, along with children from lots of Sunderland schools.

Teacher, Bethany Smith, said during the visit the pupils were being told all about the heroes of the sea.

She said: “They were all asked to name their heroes and make medals for them, and these two boys chose Jordan Pickford.”

The Year 4 teacher said the school had been buzzing ahead of last night’s match with Croatia.

Ms Smith said the pupils had been celebrating the success of the England team in reaching the semi-finals and the contributions of local lads Jordan Pickford and Jordan Henderson.

She said: “They have been having Pickford and Henderson days in school.”
