Scandi-lously great time for couple

Sunderland Echo - - The Tall Ships Races 2018 are here -

A Scandinavian sailing couple are loving life at the Tall Ships in Sunderland.

And they’re cherishing their time so much on the seas that they have devoted their lives to becoming full-time sailors.

Viktor Rybka and Mie Schiett, from Norway, came in on the Sorlandet – the world’s oldest and most authentic fully-rigged ship still in active service.

It’s far from being their debut as sailors.

The pair learned their skills on the training ship the Danmark with the aim of working in the maritime industry.

Viktor explained that the Danmark trains ‘ordinary seamen’.

For Viktor, he’s a relative veteran of 12 years in sail training and Mie can boast more than five years on the water.

But even so, Wearside is a new experience for them.

It’s Mie’s first trip to England, and the second visit for Viktor.

She said: “English people are very nice, and it’s great to be at the Tall Ships in Sunderland – it’s a very good event.

“We’re really looking forward to being part of the Tall Ships experience.”
