It’s a wheely good addition to the run
Sunderland’s Red House fun run has spawned a new runner ... on wheels.
The highly successful Sunday jog, which made headlines in June when it crossed paths with an athletic club race on Newcastle Road, raised enough money to buy Hylton Red House School a new mini-bus.
The run was organised by the school, Sunderland Basketball Club, and the Echo. In all, 1,283 runners took part – and more than 1,000 finished the course.
The school’s sponsored runners raised £1,700 from the ten-mile jog and the bus was bought with that and other donations.
PE teacher Graham Young received the keys. The school’s parentteacher association, which helped with the buy, presented a cheque for £1,300 to head boy and girl Ralph Boutflower and Lorraine Thompson.
