Funding boost for special school
The staff and pupils at Sunningdale School were delighted to be given £3,000 to help set up a new group.
The money was handed over to the Sunderland special school by representatives from the TSB bank, which donated the grant.
Jan Patterson, family partnership advisor at the Springwell school, said the money will be used to support the setting up of family nurturing courses to help families deal with a number of issues and difficulties they face.
Ms Patterson, said: “It can be very difficult having a child with a disability. It can have a huge impact on all aspects of family life.”
She said there are a lot of obstacles faced by families, including financial ones if a parent cannot work due to caring for the child.
The grant from the TSB will be used to train a team of staff, who need to complete a four-day course, to qualify to run the family nurturing courses.
