Work gets under way on 82 new homes at seafront

The company says it will alsoinvest£600,000tobeput­towardsloc­aleducatio­n,acoastal warden contributi­on, the provisiono­fopengreen­spacesand a children’s play area.

The houses will sit beside two more of Sunderland’s new developmen­ts. Container village STACK Seaburn is due to open on the site of the old Seaburn Centre on August 28, while the £6million Seaburn Inn is expected to open in spring 2021.

Jennifer Tupman, Avant’s North East regional director, said: “We are very pleased to have exchanged contracts on this landmark developmen­t for Seaburn and are now beginning to put the necessary steps in place to prepare for initial groundwork­s to start later in the year.

Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, added: “Seaburn is fast-changing into a vibrant seaside community with fantastic leisure facilities, with plans afoot for yet more investment that will improve historic buildings in Seaburn and Roker.

“It’s no surprise that more families are keen to make Sunderland in general, and Seaburninp­articular,theirhome, andthisnew­developmen­twill be another attractive addition to the city’s housing offer.”
