Surf Girl - - Radar - Take a look at the Jonas Claesson collection at www.surfgirlbeachboutique.com

Jonas Claesson has an amazing eye for drawing cool surfing pictures with animals in them. Originally from Stockholm, Jonas now resides on the sunny Gold Coast in Australia, creating wild and wacky illustrations that range from tube riding tigers to surfing sloths. It’s fair to say Jonas has built up a great name for himself with his distinct and unique style.

We’ve just introduced a range of Jonas’s work to the Beach Boutique so we thought we’d have a quick chat.

Jonas, your artwork is really different – how did you get into developing your style?

Thank you! I think it’s just a gradual thing that happens over time, drawing things that are fun to draw, trying new mediums and evolving ideas.

Where do you get your ideas?

From everyday life and things I see around me. From surfing and from taking naps.

What inspires you?

Nature, happy people and being in the outdoors. I get inspired from a lot of things in everyday life – things I see when I surf, travel and do whatever. And today, with all the social media it’s also easy to follow very inspiring people doing cool stuff from all over the world.

Drawing in itself is also inspiring. It is one of the few things that takes me into the flow, where I stop thinking about time, emails, deadlines and to do lists.

Did you expect your art to do so well when you first started out?

Not at all. I am surprised, happy and humbled that so many people connect with my art. It is such a blessing to be able to draw for a living.

If you were one of your surfing animals which one would you be?

A longboarding sloth.
