I know the changes I want to see in this industry, and I am ready to show up, grow up and get to work wherever I can.
fire pumping through your veins.
We started meeting most mornings to greet the dawn together – a little later in the darkest winter months as we waited for the sunrise to creep in. It was an open invitation for anyone to join us, no matter where on the gender spectrum you fall. The only rules are no wetsuits, and try to stay submerged for a minimum of 2 minutes. The daunting challenge quickly became an addictive morning ritual, stress-free and soul filling.
When we started our swims, one morning I posted a photo of us on the slipway with the caption Rise Fierce, and I guess it caught on. We all started sharing our pictures with the #risefierce hashtag, and other people joined in too. Strangers asked if they could join us and our tribe grew. Now I get men and women all over the UK and Ireland tagging me in their daily cold-water sea swims.
Rise Fierce began by getting up in the morning with an attitude that allowed you to hurl yourself out of bed and into the icy Atlantic, but it became so much more than that. The rise is no longer about getting up in the morning; it’s about rising in life, to meet whatever situation you are in with great heartfelt intensity. We immerse and, “rise and rise again until lambs become lions.”
Give us an insight into who you are.
I feel like I’ve already talked a lot, so hopefully that gives you some insight into who I am and what I’m passionate about. I know there are many flaws in my character, but hopefully I have some redeeming features too. I haven’t always made the best decisions, but I’m not afraid to admit where I have been wrong. I’m a work in progress, aren’t we all? I know the changes I want to see in this industry, and I am ready to show up, grow up and get to work wherever I can.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
I don’t use curtains, so the sunrise wakes me every day. That and a big cup of green tea.
Not Ireland for sure…
