Animal lovers head to gala day at RSPCA Millbrook
SURREY families searching for a furry friend flocked to the RSPCA animal centre in Millbrook, Chobham, to meet the gorgeous pets looking for a forever home.
Two thousand people attended the event in Guildford Road on Sunday, which united rescued pooches and loving owners.
The jam-packed day also offered animal lovers an opportunity to meet the rescue centre’s other animals, including donkeys, horses, rabbits and cats (to name but a few.)
Among the rescued animals looking for a home was Brandy who wore an adorable spotted neckerchief for the occasion.
The day was also spent raising funds for the RSPCA with staff and volunteers selling homemade goods including Millbrook honey and handmade toys.
More than £11,000 was raised for the charity.
The morning started with a parade of the rescued canines looking for a home, which was followed by a performance by Morris dancers, a raffle and tombola.
The gorgeous pups also impressed prospective owners during an agility competition.
However, it wasn’t only dogs looking for homes, Grape the colourful feathered Alexandrine parakeet was also in need of a loving owner to take her.
Sue Walters, manager of RSPCA Millbrook, told the Surrey Advertiser: “We were delighted to have lots of visitors to our gala day on Sunday, including many of our loyal supporters who braved the rain to come along and support our event.
“Due to some ongoing building work we have at the moment, the gala was slightly smaller than previous years but we still had approximately 2,000 visitors, so we were delighted.
“We had royal cheerleaders doing an excellent display, Richard Curtis with his sheepdogs, Punch and Judy, morris dancers and the rescue dog re-homing parade showing off the lovely dogs we have looking for homes.”
He added: “We also managed to raise more than £11,000 which is absolutely fantastic.
“Thank you to everyone who came along and enjoyed the day, and we now look forward to a bigger and better event next year with our new reception.”
