Drivers need parking lessons

SURREY’S bad parking epidemic has not improved since the new school year started on September 5.

Residents of St John’s, Woking have sent the Surrey Advertiser these pictures from Hermitage Road, next to Winston Churchill School, during the school run.

Drivers have blocked both the pavement and the cycle lane, forcing pedestrians onto the road, and one resident said she was verbally abused when she asked one of the drivers to move.

Louise Stapleton said: “All I want to do is be able to walk to collect my daughter from school with my one-year-old in the buggy safely, without confrontation or feeling intimidated by others when I have to ask them to move their cars.”

Another resident Christine Skeet said: “Parents are parking on the pavement and blocking the road.

“We’re having to go in the middle of a busy road. There will be an accident.

“What we would have liked is for the school to send a message to parents asking them not to do this.”
