Ap­peal by po­lice after sex­ual as­sault

WEY­BRIDGE: A man has been ar­rested fol­low­ing a sex­ual as­sault in Wey­bridge. The in­ci­dent took place in Church Street just be­fore mid­night on Satur­day Septem­ber 6. The vic­tim, a woman in her 40s, was in Church Street op­po­site St James’ Parish Church when she was as­saulted by a man. A mem­ber of the pub­lic in­ter­vened and has spo­ken to po­lice as part of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. A man in his 40s has been charged with as­sault, sex­ual as­sault, racial ha­rass­ment, common as­sault and a pub­lic or­der of­fence. He has been re­leased on bail and is due to ap­pear at North Sur­rey Mag­is­trates’ Court on Jan­uary 2. In­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer De­tec­tive Con­sta­ble Carly Humphreys, said: “This in­ci­dent oc­curred in a busy lo­ca­tion on a Satur­day night so pass­ing mo­torists and pedes­tri­ans may well have seen some­thing hap­pen­ing.
