Taste of Christmas

Surrey Herald/News - - COMMUNITY -

YOUR typical baked treat this Christmas will probably consist of fruit cake but baker Laura Miller, who runs the Sweet As Sugar shop, is trying something altogether more ambitious. Laura, from Byfleet, has well and truly put the icing on the cake by creating a magical extra depicting Santa in his sleigh pulled by eight reindeer. The virtuoso effort is part of a Christmas collaboration to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society. Around 200 bakers across the world have been busy creating an edible sculpture to create a festive village scene based on the makebelieve Frostington. Last year, Laura baked a busy scene from Disney's smash-hit Frozen as part of Bake A Christmas Wish – to raise money for the MakeA-Wish Foundation. Her grand effort helped raise more than £8,000. “We would like to push that figure even higher this year,” said Laura. “The village scene is made completely of edible cake sculptures and Santa's sleigh and the eight reindeers was baked by me.” The cake is on display at Sweet As Sugar in Bagshot all this month.
