ATM stolen in truck ram raid
Weybridge Gang with balaclavas strike at Mercedes-Benz World
A cash machine was stolen from Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge on Monday night when a group of men smashed through the front entrance with a pick-up truck. The incident took place at 11.30pm, with security guards being threatened by the gang wearing balaclavas. A vehicle was pursued from the Brooklands site by police following the raid. Five men were arrested in Wokingham at around 12.15am. Another group of people in a second vehicle were also believed to have been involved. Detective Chief Inspector Nancy Greenslade-Jones said: “I would appeal to anybody who saw anything suspicious in or around the locality of the offence in the days leading up to the incident, or at the time it happened, to get in touch urgently. “We believe another vehicle and a further group of people were involved in this burglary, which is why it is so important for anyone who has any information to get in touch and help us with our investigation. “We are aware of several other incidents of a similar nature having taken place around the county in recent weeks and are not ruling out that they are linked.” The Spar store in Elstead was targeted for its cash machine on Saturday, while a 4x4 vehicle was used to smash through the entrance of The Atrium shopping centre in Camberley in a cash machine raid on Saturday December 6. A spokesman for Mercedes-Benz World said: “Colleagues working as part of the on-site security team were present at the time of the incident – the main building at Mercedes-Benz World was otherwise unoccupied. Colleagues continue to assist the police in any way they can as the crime is investigated. “What is most important to us is the safety of our colleagues and visitors to Mercedes-Benz World and we thank the security team and support staff for their actions both during and after the incident.” Anyone with any information on the raid is asked to call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference 45140105893.
