OUR November meeting was the first to be chaired by the new president, Susan Whitworth, who was given a round of applause to welcome her into the role after many years as treasurer.
She was also thanked for the successful ploughman’s lunch held at her home. This not only raises funds but provides an opportunity for smaller groups to meet and socialise. Members were thanked for responding generously to the Samaritan’s Purse appeal this year by providing 27 shoeboxes filled with small gifts for children around the world in need of support. Carol Sullivan, stepping into a vacancy at very short notice, then gave us a colourful demonstration of making attractive Christmas table decorations. She used a wonderful variety of natural materials to create some gorgeous displays. Greenery, cones, apples, dried oranges, bark, poinsettia leaves and roses were arranged in containers and placed on tables for our inspection. She kindly donated them as the afternoon’s raffle prizes, making it a bumper lottery.
