No slip-ups as Moles close the gap

CCL Premier Molesey 3 Horley Town 0

HORLEY were all Chat and no trousers as they succumbed to Molesey. Keeper Ian Chatfield was inspired for the visitors but he alone could not prevent Molesey from closing in on leaders Cove with a win that pleased boss Steve Webb after a slip-up in their last home game against Bedfont. Despite Chatfield’s brilliance, Moles still managed to overcome stubborn opposition even though Webb described his team’s showing in front of goal as “wasteful”. He said: “I’m pleased we made up ground on Cove who lost against Ashford but I’m more pleased we didn’t drop points against someone silly like we have done even though we should have scored more. “Horley have good players and have just come off a good run in the Vase so we deserve a bit of credit.” On a heavy pitch, which didn’t suit Molesey’s style, a shot parried by Chatfield was followed up by Tom Windsor who fired home for 1-0 on 14 minutes. A bonus for Moles was Horley’s old-fashioned centre-forward Anthony Jupp being substituted after 30 minutes having been booked. It took away part of the visitors’ threat and Molesey were able to add to their lead after 35 minutes when the ball was played through midfield with some excellent passing and Matt Baxter finished off with a neat strike. Webb admitted to feeling a little flat at half time and explained: “I was subdued as we have just played Ashford and Spelthorne who are good teams where you have to react. “Some sides come to us to frustrate and not test us and Horley were one of those. They got a free kick with 15 minutes to go and I thought if they scored we might come under pressure. “But the free kick was woeful and sort of summed up their day.” As it was Molesey added a third when substitute Dre Grobler picked his spot. “That was it done and dusted,” added Webb. “Now we go to Windsor on a nice big playing surface.”
