Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking has exclusively unveiled detailed plans for its new Vineyard Hotel to Surrey Life. The new hotel is set to open in spring 2019 and will be located in the heart of the vineyard, offering sweeping views over the North Downs Way.
Visitors to the vineyard can currently stay at the estate’s farmhouse, but the new hotel will provide space for an additional 10 en suite bedrooms, including a bridal suite. Due to its location on the doorstep of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Denbies says it is important for the development to complement its surroundings and has chosen to construct the hotel using carbon neutral methods.
The growth in popularity of English wine was the deciding factor for extending the vineyard’s accommodation, according to Denbies chief operating officer, Jeannette Simpson. “The demand for accommodation in the area has never been higher; the existing farmhouse currently runs at capacity most weeks,” she says. “The combination of this and the unprecedented growth of wine tourism in the UK makes this the perfect time. The reputation of English wine continues to grow and wine tourism is an integral part of communicating this message loud and clear.”
Denbies says it will be working closely with local like-minded businesses to create experience breaks in the Surrey Hills and that guests will be offered complimentary wine tasting tutorials in the hotel.
Indeed, the hotel is likely to be a wine buff’s dream come true as there will be opportunities to try Denbies wine at almost every turn, Jeannette adds: “The hotel will feature its own ‘Enomatic’ wine dispensing machine, which will enable guests to taste and purchase Denbies wine range by the glass. Plus, the outdoor cabanna-style seating area will allow guests to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, local cheese and sharing platters while taking in the breathtaking surroundings.”
