Open­ing this year’s fes­ti­val is a gala con­cert to mark the cen­te­nary of the birth of com­poser and con­duc­tor, Leonard Bern­stein. Fol­low­ing a talk by Humphrey Bur­ton CBE – a friend and col­league of Bern­stein’s and au­thor of his bi­og­ra­phy – renowned con­duc­tor Alexan­der In­gram will lead the spe­cially-formed Guild­ford Fes­ti­val Orches­tra in an evening of Bern­stein’s mu­sic with in­ter­na­tion­ally ac­claimed soloists, so­prano Paula Sides, tenor David Hor­ton, mezzo Carolyn Dob­bin and bari­tone Matthew Siviter.
