THOUGHT this week I would give you an update on how phase one is coming along. Phase one will be open by this summer and will become ‘The Lodge at Reuben’s’.
It will serve as our bereavement counselling and support centre for our parents and siblings that have or may lose a child.
It will also have an apartment, office space, kitchen and function room so that we can put on many events for our families.
We raised our first million in 23 months, a target we set ourselves as 23 months was how long we were blessed with Reuben for.
Our first million has secured our retreat, supported 134 families and enabled us to renovate phase one.
We now need to raise our second and third million in order to complete our huge retreat.
We think this will take around three to five years as our project is huge, made up of around eight
l● Reuben phased projects. Once completed the retreat will house four self catering apartments, a tea room, hydrotherapy suite, sensory room, office space, day room, managerial quarters and more.
This week I would like to thank TKC at Denton for kindly donating our kitchen for phase one.
Thank you to Beth, Manu and the team for not only donating our kitchen but for putting Universal Granite forward to support too.
Also a huge thank you to A-Plant Hire who kindly donated around £6k worth of plant hire equipment to support our initial structural works.
Our lodge has become a project within a project and is heavily supported by talent, skills, donations, services and volunteers.
The extension is now in, the roof is being refurbed, walls knocked down and new rooms created and plastering has started too.
Thank you this week to Marks and Spencer, Ashton, for choosing us as charity of choice.
Also Buxton and Leek College for their support and recent invite to present.
Thank you to St George’s Church, Imperial George Ladies lodge, TSB Greater Manchester region and Salford College for their donations.
Also a big thank you to Bob and Irene Skupham from The Wheatsheaf in Glossop for their regular quiz donations.
We wish them well on their retirement and send best wishes to them and also to the new landlord and landlady at The Wheatsheaf pub too.
Thank you to BNI and Carol at Bolton for inviting us to speak at their recent meeting too.
One of our volunteers Pat is arranging a craft fair in Glossop for October 18, at the hall on St Mary’s Road. It is £6 a table if you’d like to attend and you can reserve a table by ringing our office on 01457 680023.
And finally a big thank you to our supporters at Denton Golf Club.
If you would like to book a team at their forthcoming golf day on May 8, please get in touch. £60 per team of four.
Once phase one is complete, we need to start work to repair the roof on our big build. For this we are currently estimating the scope of works to be around £80k to £100k so that will be our next aim, to raise sufficient funds to carry out this vital work.
If you’d like to support our build please text a donation to 70070 and type in the message BUIL23 £5 or any amount from £1 to £10. Everybody has something to bring to Reuben’s Retreat. Thank you.
Good luck to all our runners in training and a massive well done to our London Marathon runners Sarah, Rachael, Chris, Paul, Juliet and Jon. Next stop the Manchester 10k, see you there May 10.
