Teachers fear compulsory extended school days would damage pupils’ family life (bit.ly/extendday)
If you had a family with siblings at different schools, different times for a pick-up would make it difficult.
Some UTCS with a day of 9-5 have shortened it. The students struggle to be productive for all that time.
Some MATS already extend the day for pupils and staff, neither of whom want it.
Two local academies had a day up to 5pm.
The students couldn’t concentrate for that long and there was greater staff turnover.
