Wheels go round and round for Mybus expansion

The Arran Banner - - News -

Concerns that the Arran MyBus service run by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) will cease operations have been allayed.

Recent discussions by the SPT operations committee showed a willingness to not only retain the service but also to extend its operations.

North Ayrshire councillor John Bruce, a representative on SPT, said: ‘Contrary to the rumour mill which seems to generate enough worry and concern at times on the island, the SPT Arran MyBus service, which commenced in 2010, will continue to operate – not just as before but it will actually expand the MyBus service to include Sundays.

‘This extension exceeds the Red Cross’s ability to continue to fund and operate the service.

‘Subject to negotiations, I would expect the existing drivers to continue with the new seven-day service.’

The decision to extend the service, if approved by the SPT operations committee at a meeting today (Friday), will see tenders being invited from bus operators for a long-term contract starting on Wednesday October 2.
