End these acts of stupidity

The Arran Banner - - News -

One of the many things to love about Arran is the fact that there so little antisocial behaviour.

It makes it really disappointing then that the island’s newest tourist attraction, which is proving extremely popular, has been hit by a string of vandal attacks since it opened at the start of the month.

But these are not visitors causing the problems; these are local youngsters getting their kicks by damaging other people’s property. And, make no mistake, the castle bosses already know who some of them are from the CCTV cameras. Now the police are involved.

It may not be wanton destruction but instead pure stupidity which is having a serious impact on the playground and has to stop before someone gets hurt.

The castle is really trying to make the playground work to bring much-needed revenue into the coffers and, so far, it seems to be successful. But if sections have to constantly shut down for repairs, it could have a serious impact on the overall attraction.

That is why we have to hope that the CCTV cameras do their job both at the playground and in dealing with the wider issue of boy racers on the castle drive, and put an end to the problems.

If not, the law may be the only alternative.
