Saturday August 26, Texas scramble and barbecue. A fine afternoon at last for the postponed Texas scramble ensured a fun day for players and spectators alike. A good turnout of players and supporters joined in the 15-hole format which meant that the players could make straight for the barbecue without having to endure the final three holes on an empty and demanding stomach. There was plenty of fun for all and the young ones in particular had a whale of a time knocking golf balls up and down the first fairway while the mums, dads and the rest enjoyed a convivial afternoon in the sunshine.
Congratulations to Team Blair who, amid all the merrymaking, played some very decent golf to win the scramble with a score well under par for the 15 holes played. Organisers said a huge thanks to all who attended and to all those who worked so hard to organise and run the event and to Andy Martin for his generous sponsorship of prizes.

Saturday August 26, AGA final. Todd Jameson of Lamlash Golf Club beat eight-times champion, Ewan McKinnon of Corrie Golf Club in a highly entertaining final full of twists and turns at Brodick Golf Club.
Todd’s one under par front nine put him three up only for Ewan to win 11, 12 and 13 to square the match. Todd won 14 and 15 to go two up, then holed a downhill 20ft putt at 16 for a crucial half. Following a drive to the edge of the green at 17, Ewan birdied the hole to give himself a glimmer of hope, but Todd appeared nerveless as he holed his putt to halve the hole for a 2 and 1 victory. Both players are to be congratulated on their exemplary sportsmanship throughout in what will no doubt turn out to be the first of many finals in which they play against each other.

Elizabeth Kelso, Ellie Jones, Jenni Turnbull and Carole Stewart represented Arran at the SWI national finals at the Hirsel Golf Club in Monday August 28 in Coldstream. They looked very smart in the Shiskine Kiscadale team outfits which even Ellie, from Lamlash, was pleased to wear!
David and Linda Blair and their two sons made up Team Blair who won the Whiting Bay Texas scramble with a score well under par.
