McLellan Festival comes to a fitting finale
The McLellan Arts Festival was to prove a whirlwind 10 days ending last Sunday with a spirited performance of Beethoven’s Mass in C under the experienced baton of Alec Crow and the McLellan Festival Chorus.
The choral concert in the community theatre was much appreciated by the audience as have been all performances this festival including the opera gala, both of which involved the students of the Northern College of Music in Manchester who attended this year’s summer school on Arran.
There was also the compelling, imaginative and, at times, powerful theatre from the drama students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Corrie and Sannox Hall last Saturday the exuberant and entertaining performance of Scots Makar Jackie Kay, the fascinating and thoughtful forum with Tim Pomeroy, the interesting student and archive films, the fun of the radio drama talk by David Hunter, the beauty of the sacred music and the pleasure of McLellan’s words in Corrie Church and the warmth of this year’s poet Maura Dooley.
Organisers say the festival is amongst the best they have had and, as always thanks are due to the many who contributed to its success.
In particular they would thank all those who performed including the local performers: Angus Adamson, Arran Dawn, Biff, Sarah Cook, John Cruikshank, Drambusters, Heather Gough, Stuart Gough, Colin Guthrie, Joni Keen, Keith Robertson, Ailsa McNicol, George Pettigrew,Tim Pomeroy, John Sillars, Spike and Peter Wilson.
They would also like to thank the Auchrannie Resort, The Douglas Hotel, Arran Aromatics, The Book and Card Shop, Arran Banner, Arran Events, Arran Lodge, KA Leisure, Whiting Bay Village Hall, Corrie and Sannox Village Hall, Brodick Library, Colin Guthrie for accommodation, front of house volunteers from the McLellan Festival steering group and, of course, grateful thanks to all those warm and appreciative people who attended the performances.
If anyone out there would like to join our steering group or become involved please email Heather at email@example.com or phone 01770 302670.
