Lady Jean joins Arran youth group
Arran Youth Foundations had a very special visitor at their fundraising day at Strabane House at the weekend – Lady Jean Fforde herself.
She made a surprise, but very welcome, appearance outside her home during the event.
The group’s Graeme Johnston said: ‘We were delighted she was able to come out and join us in the afternoon. She enjoyed watching the pipe band with a cup of tea and some home-baking given to her by one of the youngsters.’
The young folk of Arran Youth Foundations raised £664 last Saturday by hosting their sixth annual fundraiser in the gardens of Lady Jean Fforde at Strabane House in Brodick.
With donations for entry, the group’s young people also raised money by selling teas, coffees and their home-baking, as well as holding a grand raffle.
For most of the event, the weather was beautiful, with a shower of rain starting just before a wonderful performance by Arran Pipe Band but failing to dampen spirits.
AYF youth work project manager Graeme Johnston said: ‘I’m delighted we raised so much – these funds will be such a big help to all the great work that we do with the young folk of Arran.
‘Everyone involved in AYF would like to thank those who helped us on Saturday, be they young people, parents, anyone who visited the gardens, all those who helped set up and clear away, and to Arran Pipe Band for coming along and providing such brilliant entertainment. Huge thanks to the businesses who donated raffle prizes: Auchrannie, Douglas Hotel, Co-operative, Arran Dairies, and Isle of Arran Cheese Shop, as well as those who brought prizes on the day.
‘Most importantly, we would like to give special thanks to Lady Jean, who so generously opened her gardens to support the young people once again. We really appreciate everything Lady Jean has done for AYF.’
