Fantasy football at book launch
A squad of young readers and fans of football joined children’s author Angela Proctor at the launch of her new book called Thumble Tumble and the Eagalach
Cup which is based on a fantasy adventure set on Arran with a football storyline.
The book, which is the third in the series, was an exciting new addition for the children who follow the adventures of Thumble Tumble and an opportunity to meet the author who has involved children in the series through school visits, competitions and various private readings.
The launch in Brodick Hall last Saturday allowed children to buy a copy of the new book and provided them with fun activities where they met some of the witches, wizards and characters from the book.
Among these was a game of eagalach (football), drawing and colouring and a quiz along with some sweet treats and chocolates from a magical cauldron.
The latest instalment, which will especially appeal to football fans, both male and female, is loosely based on Scottish international footballer Robert Snodgrass who has been transformed into a kilted Thistle pixie in the book.
Author Angela chose Robert, currently on loan at Aston Villa, as a role model for her goal scoring Thistle pixie after seeing him play in Malta and spending time with the star and his team mates.
He was not at the event on Arran but told the
Banner: ‘It’s a strange but wonderful feeling being immortalised in such a lovely children’s book. I’m delighted because not only do I hope it encourages more children to read books, but my own kids are big Thumble Tumble fans.
They are really excited about me appearing in the book and have even been asking me if it might be made into a film one day. In their eyes, that would make me proper famous.’
At the event Angela was met by a legion of fans who joined in the activities, bought the latest book and even presented the author with ideas and suggestions for future books in the series.
Angela said: ‘I had a magical day on Arran for the launch of the third book in the Thumble Tumble book series. I was thrilled to see so many children who already follow the book series and it was also great to meet loads of new Thumble Tumble readers too. I am always overwhelmed by the amazing support I receive from VisitArran and the local community.’
