A commemorative service attended by more than 50 people was enjoyed by worshippers of all faiths who met at the restored Clachan Church in Shiskine for the open-air event.

The annual event, organised by St Molios Church in Shiskine, saw the clergy from all denominations attending the service, which was led by the Rev Angus Adamson, who read from the King James bible. Liz Dale read the lesson in Gaelic while Elizabeth Wilkinson played the harp and sang with her husband. Rev Benjamin van Rensburg delivered the sermon and the benediction was rendered by Father Noel Colford.

During the service, a plaque was dedicated to the memory of Jack Murchie, one of the main instigators of the renovation of the old kirk which was restored in 2012.

The service provides an opportunity for wor- shippers to gather, not only for religious purposes, but also as a celebration of Arran’s heritage in a church that dates back to druidic times.

Father Noel Colford, Liz Dale, Rev Angus Adamson and Rev Benjamin van Rensburg held the open air service at the restored Clachan Church in Shiskine.
