Women in agri­cul­ture con­fer­ence

More than 50 del­e­gates, in­clud­ing women from Ar­ran, Ar­gyll, Is­lay, Bute and Mull, at­tended the in­au­gu­ral Women in Agri­cul­ture event in Ar­gyll and the Is­lands, held in Lochgilp­head last week.

Guest speaker

At­ten­dees heard from guest speaker Joyce Camp­bell, a Suther­land sheep farmer, win­ner of the in­au­gu­ral AgriS­cot Scot­tish sheep farm of the year award in 2015 and cur­rently joint chair of the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment women in agri­cul­ture task force. The con­fer­ence was chaired by Sarah Al­li­son, vice-chair of the Na­tional Farm­ers’ Union Scot­land (NFUS) new gen­er­a­tion group and mem­ber of the newly cre­ated na­tional coun­cil of ru­ral ad­vis­ers.

Del­e­gates joined in on a se­ries of work­shops cov­er­ing farm di­ver­si­fi­ca­tion, fund­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties through Busi­ness Gate­way and LEADER, ru­ral lead­er­ship, brand mar­ket­ing and build­ing on the role of women in NFU Scot­land.

The del­e­gates came from a wide range of agri­cul­tural and ru­ral busi­nesses and plans are be­ing made for fur­ther events, pos­si­bly held on week­ends to en­cour­age at­ten­dance.
