Hurricane winds can’t ruin Kenny and Samantha’s wedding day

A determined couple refused to let foul weather ruin their wedding day on Arran, despite being caught up in near-hurricane force winds during storm Ophelia.

Newlyweds Kenny and Samantha Gribble of Kilmarnock, who have been coming to Arran for more than 10 years, tied the knot on Monday October 16 just as the named storm was gathering impetus and which would later blow off roof tiles across the island, cause minor flooding in Sannox and bring down an old beech tree in Lamlash.

Keen to ensure that there were no issues with ferry disruptions blocking delivery of wedding goods, the only items the couple brought with them were the kilts and the wedding dress and everything else came from Arran. Hairstylist Laura Milligan created the hurricane defying hairstyles, Eleanor’s Flowers delivered the floral bouquets without a hitch and the favours contained Arran cheese, Lochranza miniatures, coasters from Arran Graphics and candles from Arran Sense of Scotland.

Mrs Gribble said: ‘Guests were varying degrees of green when arriving off the ferry, however, they loved Arran and said the backdrop was amazing. The wild weather just added to the occasion.’
