How have you pursued growth despite Dubai’s small geographic size?
In Dubai, we have mainly supplied rolling mills for rebar. Even if most of our factories have relatively small capacity, our plants are extremely productive and efficient, allowing our customers to stay competitive on the market. Despite the relatively small size of Dubai, we have one of the highest concentration of long rolling references in UAE, with an installed capacity of about 2.5 million tons per year, thanks to the fast pace of construction here. We have two rolling mills in Dubai, three in Abu Dhabi, and one in Fujairah dedicated to producing rebar and wire rod for construction. This represented a huge growth in the region when we started a few years ago, and the plants have been successful. Our customers trust our expertise, and recently, we have supplied one of the first prototypes of a new technology: a machine that can weld together billets after the reheating furnace and before the rolling train, converting the discontinuous billet batch process to a continuous material flow that increases the yield and output, while reducing cobbles and maintenance costs.
