The fish­ery pro­duced some ex­cel­lent sport this week with lots of big catches. John Iredale caught 30 most on the Blob. S Lud­low caught 27 on Hare’s Ear and Dam­sels. Brian Daw­son caught 25 on lures and dries while Steve Baker caught 24 on Yel­low Tinny. R Church­yard had 19 on the F Fly and J Senna landed 18 on small Buzzers.

251 an­glers caught 695 trout to 3lb. Fly an­gler Paul Bradley took a limit bag for 13lb 8oz while Paul Dunn took his limit on the Beamish Killer. Richard Ab­bott and son took a quick time limit bag on ledgered power­bait eggs. Jim Sher­riff also bagged a limit while Paul Moore from Sun­ni­side took a tagged trout worth £200. Top flies were: Black Fritz, Sol­dier Mud­dler, Daddy Long Legs and White Zonker.

101 rods landed 128 trout to 4lb 8oz. Signs are there for sport pick­ing up. J Pat­tin­son and J Blake both weighed in limit bags. M Robin­son landed the fish of the week at 4lb 8oz. Plenty of rods landed trout over 3lb. . Top flies were: Buzzers. Best baits were ledgered Pink and Or­ange Power­bait Eggs.

175 rods landed 547 trout to 4lb. Jeff Walsh bagged his limit as did Mr Cameron. S Lind­say caught nine on fly. T Wool­ridge and fam­ily landed 12 trout. K Lee took the best trout at 4lb. Westerly winds im­proved sport and plenty trout were tak­ing the blown on Heather Flies. Top flies were: Cats Whisker, Daw­son’s Olive, Dad­dies, Heather Fly and small black dries es­pe­cially in the evenings. Or­ange Power­bait eggs, Or­ange Mice Tails, Float fished worm and spin­ner were top baits.

An­glers av­er­aged 2 trout per visit with blown on Heather Flies at­tract­ing the at­ten­tion of the feed­ing trout. David Phillips took eight fish on Heather Fly pat­terns. Der­rick Carr took eight trout for 16lb in­clud­ing one of 3lb. Mud­dlers pulled through the waves when it is blus­tery has been an ef­fec­tive tac­tic to use. Top pat­terns in­clude: Heather Fly, Bibio, Mud­dlers, var­i­ous Black Dries and Cats Whisker.

116 an­glers caught 206 trout to 4lb 4oz. Limit bags were caught at Kielder Waterside, and Matthews Linn. Boat an­glers did well with Mud­dlers and Daddy Long Legs. Top flies were Black Mud­dler, Dad­dies and Or­ange Cor­morant. Power­baits and spin­ners did the trick for the bait an­glers.

Sur­face ac­tiv­ity has been pro­lific but trout have been choosy. Top flies were Black Dries and Ship­mans. Among the top catches was M Proud­foot with 18 and Tony Bar­clay with 15. An­thony Mead­ows landed 13 while M Chap­man, Rory No­ble and H Haughan all caught 9.Dave Mid­dle­mast caught the best fish of the week at 7lb. Other fly pat­terns tak­ing trout were: Black Hop­per, Fritz, and Black Buzzers. The fish­ery is closed un­til 4pm on Satur­day, for the Tyneside An­glers Syn­di­cate’s Dis­abled An­glers Day.

Plenty flies hatch­ing off have pro­duced great sport this week with top of the wa­ter ac­tion. Neil Hodg­son from Stan­hope landed 19 rain­bows and two brown trout on Shut­tle­cocks. Rob Frame re­turned 22 trout caught on a Black Ship­man’s Buzzer. Stu Younger re­turned 13 to the Lower Lough caught on dries. Boat pair Dicky Law­son and Johnny Thack­ray re­turned 17 trout mainly to Dog Nob­blers. An­glers av­er­aged 3.5 trout per visit. Imi­ta­tive pat­terns pro­duced the best of the sport.


01665 574400 / Mob 07795 0026 Dry flies, CdC’s, Dad­dies, Buzzers and Black Lures did well this week. Among the big catches was Ali Tait from Mor­peth with 22 trout over two visits on dries, Sedge and Ship­mans. Mick Brown from Bedling­ton landed 19 in­clud­ing a 4lb brown trout. Alec Har­vey from Cram­ling­ton caught nine on dries and Di­awl Bach. An­thony Mead­ows from Chop­well caught 12 on Ship­mans and Dam­sels while Trevor Wadds had 10 on Dries. Con­nor Stod­dart from Dip­ton kept four trout for 10lb 13oz caught on Hare’s Ear and Buzzers. Sedges, Hare’s Ear, Yel­low Owl, Ship­mans and Di­awl Bach also took fish.


Few­ston Reser­voir fished well with a 3.2 rod av­er­age and some fine fish caught. Best re­ported was a 6lb rain­bow caught on an In­victa. A 3lb 8oz rain­bow was also landed on a Daw­son’s Olive. Blown on Heather Flies have had trout feed­ing hard.
