The fishery produced some excellent sport this week with lots of big catches. John Iredale caught 30 most on the Blob. S Ludlow caught 27 on Hare’s Ear and Damsels. Brian Dawson caught 25 on lures and dries while Steve Baker caught 24 on Yellow Tinny. R Churchyard had 19 on the F Fly and J Senna landed 18 on small Buzzers.

251 anglers caught 695 trout to 3lb. Fly angler Paul Bradley took a limit bag for 13lb 8oz while Paul Dunn took his limit on the Beamish Killer. Richard Abbott and son took a quick time limit bag on ledgered powerbait eggs. Jim Sherriff also bagged a limit while Paul Moore from Sunniside took a tagged trout worth £200. Top flies were: Black Fritz, Soldier Muddler, Daddy Long Legs and White Zonker.

101 rods landed 128 trout to 4lb 8oz. Signs are there for sport picking up. J Pattinson and J Blake both weighed in limit bags. M Robinson landed the fish of the week at 4lb 8oz. Plenty of rods landed trout over 3lb. . Top flies were: Buzzers. Best baits were ledgered Pink and Orange Powerbait Eggs.

175 rods landed 547 trout to 4lb. Jeff Walsh bagged his limit as did Mr Cameron. S Lindsay caught nine on fly. T Woolridge and family landed 12 trout. K Lee took the best trout at 4lb. Westerly winds improved sport and plenty trout were taking the blown on Heather Flies. Top flies were: Cats Whisker, Dawson’s Olive, Daddies, Heather Fly and small black dries especially in the evenings. Orange Powerbait eggs, Orange Mice Tails, Float fished worm and spinner were top baits.

Anglers averaged 2 trout per visit with blown on Heather Flies attracting the attention of the feeding trout. David Phillips took eight fish on Heather Fly patterns. Derrick Carr took eight trout for 16lb including one of 3lb. Muddlers pulled through the waves when it is blustery has been an effective tactic to use. Top patterns include: Heather Fly, Bibio, Muddlers, various Black Dries and Cats Whisker.

116 anglers caught 206 trout to 4lb 4oz. Limit bags were caught at Kielder Waterside, and Matthews Linn. Boat anglers did well with Muddlers and Daddy Long Legs. Top flies were Black Muddler, Daddies and Orange Cormorant. Powerbaits and spinners did the trick for the bait anglers.

Surface activity has been prolific but trout have been choosy. Top flies were Black Dries and Shipmans. Among the top catches was M Proudfoot with 18 and Tony Barclay with 15. Anthony Meadows landed 13 while M Chapman, Rory Noble and H Haughan all caught 9.Dave Middlemast caught the best fish of the week at 7lb. Other fly patterns taking trout were: Black Hopper, Fritz, and Black Buzzers. The fishery is closed until 4pm on Saturday, for the Tyneside Anglers Syndicate’s Disabled Anglers Day.

Plenty flies hatching off have produced great sport this week with top of the water action. Neil Hodgson from Stanhope landed 19 rainbows and two brown trout on Shuttlecocks. Rob Frame returned 22 trout caught on a Black Shipman’s Buzzer. Stu Younger returned 13 to the Lower Lough caught on dries. Boat pair Dicky Lawson and Johnny Thackray returned 17 trout mainly to Dog Nobblers. Anglers averaged 3.5 trout per visit. Imitative patterns produced the best of the sport.
THRUNTON TROUT FISHERY
01665 574400 / Mob 07795 0026 Dry flies, CdC’s, Daddies, Buzzers and Black Lures did well this week. Among the big catches was Ali Tait from Morpeth with 22 trout over two visits on dries, Sedge and Shipmans. Mick Brown from Bedlington landed 19 including a 4lb brown trout. Alec Harvey from Cramlington caught nine on dries and Diawl Bach. Anthony Meadows from Chopwell caught 12 on Shipmans and Damsels while Trevor Wadds had 10 on Dries. Connor Stoddart from Dipton kept four trout for 10lb 13oz caught on Hare’s Ear and Buzzers. Sedges, Hare’s Ear, Yellow Owl, Shipmans and Diawl Bach also took fish.

Fewston Reservoir fished well with a 3.2 rod average and some fine fish caught. Best reported was a 6lb rainbow caught on an Invicta. A 3lb 8oz rainbow was also landed on a Dawson’s Olive. Blown on Heather Flies have had trout feeding hard.
