Gala Theatre

Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical is being staged for the first time at the National Theatre and broadcast live from there to the Durham theatre. Set in New York in 1971, the action revolves around a theatre party held to recall the good old days before the building is demolished. Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton play the “Follies girls” who last performed there 30 years ago and meet up again to enjoy a few drinks and songs. This new production, featuring a cast of 37 and a 21-strong orchestra, can be seen on Thursday. Remember, the Lumiere festival starts in the city that night so leave lots of time to make its 7pm start. See
