Jobes a good ‘un as Matty stages pro show
NEW BOY TAYLOR INCLUDED WITH FIVE SET TO FLY FLAG
NEWCASTLE gym master Matty Jobes is ready to unleash his fighters on his own show within the city later this month.
New boy Mark Taylor will spearhead the Jobes attack at the Gosforth Social Club on November 24.
Earlier this year Jobes took the decision to take out his pro management license, having guided Sam Best and James Barnes as a trainer through their early stages in the paid ranks.
The decision to add a manager’s licence to his name was further strengthened by the addition of Taylor, Connor Somerville, Tom Walsh and Chrissy Atkinson.
Taylor made his professional bow at Houghton’s Rainton Meadows in May, putting in a good four-round performance against the vastlyexperienced Andrej Cepur before claiming a points success.
However, he and the camp at Jobes’ Gym were not expecting the period of inactivity which followed the 20-year-old’s debut.
“It has been frustrating,” admitted Taylor. “We were aiming to be on the Arena show promoted by Frank Warren at the weekend but for some reason or other it did not happen.
“It was disappointing and we had to do something.
“That is when we looked at the Gosforth Social and it is great the five of us who are on the bill are all managed and trained by Matty.
“I have been training pretty much non-stop since July and I feel a completely different fighter.”
Performing at light middleweight, Taylor is aware there are several others in his class around him in the North East. Having got past the first hurdle in Cepur, he knows to move up the ladder he will need six bouts by early next year and hopefully eight by the end of 2018.
Taylor added: “I had only been in the gym a few months before the first fight.
“We have had time to gel now and with my obsessive nature for boxing Matty is never on my back.
“I am in there two to three times a day, every day. I see Matty more than I do my own father!
“We are looking at doing a fourrounder on this one then step it up to six in the new year, and the same again next year before eventually looking at a Northern Area title.
“I know there are really good, local fights ahead but they will only be that to me if there is some sort of title on the line.
“I have possible bouts with people like Chad Ellis, Christopher Wallace, and Tom Hill ahead of me - but first I need to take care of this one.”
Tickets for the Montague Suite at Gosforth Social Club are available from Jobes’ Gym on 07701 394 066, priced at £40 entry and £60 VIP, which comes with hot and cold buffet, balcony seats and waitress service.
