WHITLEY Braves are one of three teams sharing top spot in English Under-18 North League Division Two after a 9-1 victory over Deeside Dragons at Hillheads.

The Braves started with a penalty awarded against them which handed Deeside a two-minute powerplay.

This was due to having a hole in one of the goal nets.

The Braves, however, took the lead in the fourth minute when Thomas Fraser and Kieron Downs linked up well, the latter firing the puck home.

The same duo were busy again at 10.27, Downs again on the scoresheet to give Whitley a 2-0 lead.

Downs was on hand from the face-off to score his hat-trick marker and his eighth goal of the season for a 3-0 advantage.

Daniel Winton nabbed his first Bay goal for 4-0 and further strikes from Alex Nergaard, Jack McCumiskey, Fraser (2) and Jason Taylor then secured an impressive win for the Braves.
