Woman ar­rested over sus­pected ar­son at­tack

A WOMAN is be­ing ques­tioned over a sus­pected ar­son at­tack.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to a home, in Ben­sham, Gateshead, dur­ing the early hours of yes­ter­day morn­ing.

One per­son was in the prop­erty at the time.

They es­caped un­in­jured but were treated by paramedics at the scene as a pre­cau­tion.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Res­cue Service alerted Northum­bria Po­lice.

Of­fi­cers are now treat­ing the fire as ‘sus­pi­cious’.

A 66-year-old woman has been ar­rested and is cur­rently in po­lice cus­tody be­ing ques­tioned on sus­pi­cion of ar­son.

Speak­ing yes­ter­day, Northum­bria Po­lice spokesman said: “At around 2.15am this morn­ing po­lice re­ceived a re­port from Tyne and Wear Fire and Res­cue Service that they were in at­ten­dance at a house fire on Wind­sor Av­enue in Gateshead.

“Po­lice at­tended to sup­port fire­fight­ers in their op­er­a­tion and the fire was later ex­tin­guished.”
