Too early to write off VAR testing

-

ALL fervent football fans prefer a fast-flowing game, and the recent Manchester United match at St James’ Park was a first-class example.

Rob Higgins, however, decries the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) saying an end-to-end game could be unnecessarily stopped.

I am a lover of football, having followed the fluctuating fortunes of Newcastle United for many years, but would prefer the game to be fair.

The VAR could have confirmed Dwight Gayle’s penalty claim, when the referee was unsighted.

I would prefer the game to be held up for a few minutes to review a controversial incident, and get the right ruling.

There will be teething problems with VAR, but please give it a fair trial.

For those clubs near the dreaded drop, and that now includes the Magpies, refs’ gaffes could plunge them into relegation. The VAR would then be welcome?
