Man se­ri­ously in­jured af­ter bridge fall

A MAN suf­fered life-threat­en­ing in­juries when he fell from the Tyne Bridge on to New­cas­tle Quay­side.

Po­lice re­ceived re­ports at around 2.30pm yes­ter­day that a man was seen on the wrong side of the bridge.

Shortly af­ter the call was made, the man fell on to the pave­ment near to Aveika bar and restau­rant.

Sev­eral am­bu­lances and po­lice cars ar­rived and paramedics treated the man at the scene.

No roads were closed but po­lice of­fi­cers asked mem­bers of the public to re­spect the man’s pri­vacy dur­ing his treat­ment.

The man suf­fered “se­ri­ous, lifethreat­en­ing in­juries” in the fall, ac­cord­ing to Northum­bria Po­lice.

He was taken by am­bu­lance to the Royal Vic­to­ria In­fir­mary in New­cas­tle.
