DRESSED to impress

The Chronicle - - Fashion Focus -

BECAUSE having just the two seasons to get us to part with our hard-earned cash – spring/summer and autumn/winter – is not enough for fashion designers, the top houses also throw in a ‘cruise’ collection between them.

Originally intended – as the name suggests – for wealthy jet-setting buyers, it is sometimes referred to as a ‘resort’ or ‘holiday’ collection. But we think it unlikely that the sort of clothes being unveiled in France and Monaco this past week are of the kind you will be stuffing into your case this summer.

There were certainly no tropical print bikinis or floaty kaftans in the collections from Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton.

There were however plenty of A-listers.

Among those squeezing their trim bottoms on to the front rows of the runway shows were actress Emma Stone and model/presenter Alexa Chung who both opted for smart suits.

Oscar winner Emma looked striking, head to toe in Louis Vuitton, her fiery hair a marked contrast to her monochromatic two-piece.

Alexa meanwhile shone in a molten metal ready-towear Christian Dior suit with a price tag of almost £5,000.

Yeah, don’t expect to see a lot of those on the Costas this year...
