Durham young stars complete regional double

DURHAM Under-15s continued their unbeaten run with the ECB County Cup with a seven-wicket victory over neighbours Northumber­land at Benwell Hill Cricket club writes Sam Blacklock.

Northumber­land won the toss and elected to bat posting 34 before the first wicket fell, as nine of the men in the middle fell cheaply.

Will Perry top-scored with 27 from 40 balls at number two while Matthew Stewart (23) and Matthew Scott (20) both contribute­d.

Spin was the order of the way as it was spinners who bagged all 10 wickets.

Harry Crawshaw bagged 4-33, while Lucas Parry 3-22 also struck.

Lucas Parry then led the way in response with 75 from 86 balls including 12 fours supported by 36 from Crawshaw as Durham cruised to victory in 37.5 overs.

Durham Under-19s proved too strong for Yorkshire, brushing aside the Tykes at Seaton Carew.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat but struggled from the off, Alex Campion departing for eight in the early stages of the gam.

Durham bowlers were on top throughout the game as Liam Burgess snapped up 3-40 backed by 2-17 from Adam Ahmed and 2-19 from Dan Legge.

Faizan Hussain then picked up 2-35 as Durham bowled out the Tykes for 180 in 47 overs.

Cameron Fyfe led the way in reply carrying his bat with an unbeaten 70 from 94 balls backed by 56 from Tom Hewison as Durham took the honours in 32.2 overs.
