Heading east was ‘the best option’ for winger
RAFA Benitez says Rolando Aarons had no choice but to head out on loan to eastern Europe, writes LEE RYDER.
The speedy winger has joined FC Slovan Liberec on loan until the end of the calendar year.
Benitez will be keeping tabs on his performances in the Fortuna Liga in the coming weeks and months.
Aarons’ agent had tried to find a Championship club in England during the summer but was unable to secure a deal with Hull City understood to have pulled out of a move in July.
A move to French side Caen also fell through meaning his representative turned to the lesser leagues around Europe after the windows closed in Italy, France, Spain and Holland without success.
Late interest from Bulgaria and the Czech Republic saw Aarons withdrawn less than an hour before kick-off in the Checkatrade Trophy tie at Doncaster in case a knock might scupper his chances of a loan move.
Speaking about Aarons’ loan exit, Benitez said: “It is important for him.
“Some players, especially young players, don’t have too many chances. They have to play.
“For him it was a pity because he had an injury and had four months when he could not play.
“After that he went on loan and managed to play.”
