As a re­sult of a gen­er­ous do­na­tion made by the York­shire Mus­lim group, Somerset com­mu­nity mem­bers are the joy­ful new re­cip­i­ents of a gen­er­ous gift of £15,000. The cheque was to be of­fi­cially pre­sented to the Somerset Com­mu­nity Foun­da­tion by the In­dian Mus­lim Wel­fare so­ci­ety in a meet­ing to be held last Satur­day. The funds will be uti­lized to help the com­mu­nity rebuild af­ter the dev­as­ta­tion in­flicted upon them by the win­ter’s floods. The Bishop of Taun­ton was due to meet the rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the IMWS in Thor­ney be­fore trav­el­ling with them to the Church of St Peter and the Church of St Paul in Muchel­ney. This, how­ever, will not be the end of their jour­ney. The bishop and the IMWS rep­re­sen­ta­tives also vis­ited Bur­row­bridge to see some of the work un­der­taken in the vil­lage by Mus­lim and Sikh vol­un­teers who vis­ited ear­lier in the year. The Bishop of Taun­ton said he was ‘thrilled’ in re­gards to the do­na­tion.
