Pickering Parish Church were hoping to host thousands for a Wizard of Oz-themed flower festival from Friday 23 May to Sunday 1 June. Youth groups, schools, the North York Moors Railway and more worked with flower arrangers and designers, some of whom have won medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, to create the Emerald City, Tin Man and Melting Witch’s Hat. The Rt Rev Glyn Webster, Bishop of Beverley, and the Ven Paul Ferguson, Bishop-designate of Whitby, and currently Archdeacon of Cleveland, will celebrate and preach at 10am masses on Sunday 25 May and Sunday 1 June respectively.
