DERBY

-

Derby Cathedral, with the wider church, was set to mark Ascension Day yesterday (29 May). Ascension Day marks the Ascension of Christ to heaven. It is traditionally celebrated on the 40th day from Easter Day itself. There were two eucharists at Derby Cathedral, both with music. The bells were rung before the evening service, where the preacher was Dr Elizabeth Thomson, Canon Missioner. “Did Christ physically ‘go up’?” Dean of Derby Dr John Davies said. “Christians will answer that question in many ways. But all will say that Christ is the King of Glory, and that kingship we celebrate on Ascension Day.”
