Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham
Internationally renowned author Dame Hilary Mantel will be the special guest at an event to launch ‘The Cranmer Connection’ - a project that will see a permanent celebration of the Aslockton’s famous ancestor Thomas Cranmer: the Archbishop of Canterbury who steered Henry VIII and England through the Reformation.
Due to the event being completely sold out, the diocese has organised a live relay of the event (reminiscent of ‘Henman Hill’) via a big screen in the adjacent church building. That will allow a further 100 people to hear the acclaimed author talk about her life and works, her special affection for Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, as well as officially launch the village project.
The author researched her novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, in Aslockton.
The Rev Bryony Wood, Vicar of The Cranmer Group, said she feels Archbishop Thomas Cranmer’s story needs to be better known.
