Churches win Gift Aid concession
A NEW wording for the Gift Aid declaration was unveiled recently by the taxman, but now, after fears that churches would lose out, it has been announced that the existing Gift Aid envelopes can be used beyond next April.
HMRC want new wording to be used, but this raised concerns by parishes that currently have thousands of the envelopes in stock and could end up as waste.
A campaign was launched, gathering over 700 signatures. The scheme benefits the Church of England by £80million in tax rebates a year.
As a result last Friday HMRC announced an extension, but only for churches. They will be allowed to use up their current stock (so long as they were ordered before 21 October 2015).
Other charities that use the Gift Aid declaration will still have to use the new wording.
